Spring 2020 News from MBNLA

by | Apr 19, 2020 | News & Events, Newsletters

As this board update was being drafted for the first time on Saturday, April 4, 2020 there was approximately 6 inches of fresh snow on the ground in many areas of southern Manitoba. Looking out one’s window revealed an almost sterile scene, especially for the time of year, as the sun created an immense amount of reflective glare off the new snow and there was very little outdoor activity.

Unfortunately, as we all know, that peaceful, serene appearance is a façade to the backdrop of the reality of a global pandemic facing our world. This has not only changed all of our lives now, but for many us, forever. The greenhouse, nursery and landscape sector, not unlike any part of the economy, has had to deal with significant uncertainty as to the current and future status of their operations.

Thankfully, on April 16, 2020, it was announced by Agriculture Minister Blaine Pederson that garden centres and greenhouses were recognized as essential services. More info on that and more including Apprenticeship Corner, CNLA and Communities in Bloom, Changes in Membership Dues Payments, and Member Benefits.
