We are seeking a Junior Designer to assist in our design process. Our Junior Designer will assist in all aspects of our design team, from initial client meeting and revision work to final design presentation and job planner creation. Our Junior Designer may also assist in our marketing, social media, and content creation team.
We are seeking someone who is able to think outside the box who excels when working in a collaborative environment. Our work regularly includes outdoor structures, extensive hardscape elements, natural and man made water features, and many outdoor living elements such as kitchens, fire pits, and lounge areas. In summary, we are not your ordinary landscape company. We design unique, special, and original outdoor spaces. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to expand your existing skill set, while also growing within the Gellers family and landscape industry as a whole.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Meet with clients to determine their landscape requirements.
Complete detailed site surveys including elevation plans.
Meet with the design team to develop site concepts.
Work with design software Vizterra to build, revise, and present landscape plans.
Assist in job costing while understanding how to work within a budget.
Develop job folders and documents related to construction.
Commit to working a flexible schedule that may include some evenings and weekends.
Optional: Develop content for social media, web, and print marketing. This may include photography, videography, drone footage, etc.
Experience & Qualifications:
Two years (minimum) of design experience in a setting related to landscape design/build
Drivers license, vehicle, personal laptop (Windows)
Design certification, such as a Bachelor of Environmental Design or a Civil Engineering diploma will be considered a strong asset but is not necessarily required based upon your previous experience.
A personal portfolio showcasing your work will be reviewed at the initial interview
The ability to use Vizterra design software will be an asset, but not required
Knowledge and skill to design in a multitude of styles ranging from modern and contemporary to traditional and eclectic
Ability to work with computers, tablets and smart phones to utilize cloud based software
Ability to read, write and comprehend job planners and blue prints in english
Strong interpersonal and leadership qualities
Strong work ethic with a “go getter” type attitude
Organizational skills required to understand project site job progression
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting project dead lines
Self-motivated attitude to drive worksite efficiency
Math required to set grades, calculate slop, quantify materials, estimate materials
Knowledge of landscape materials available in the Manitoba market
Compensation & Salary:
Salary and compensation package will be based upon successful candidate’s current skills and qualifications. We offer an industry leading performance based pay bonus, on top of an agreed upon hourly wage. Successful candidates will have hourly compensation packages ranging from $18.00 – $30.00/hour
